Transducer wire cut

toonfish

Question

Somehow, while the boat was in storage my wire to the transducer got cut......can i just fuse this back together or do I need to get a whole new wire.....I tried to electrical tape it back together to test it, but got no depth reading, there are two separate wires beneath the original coating, should I wrap these seperately and try it?

I've tried splicing before and it usually wont work. It is a very sensitive wire and altering resistance, ie. soldering or crimping the wires, will cause interference. it never hurts to try though. just make sure the two wires dont contact each other

I was told it couldn't and shouldn't be done, however because I needed it NOW and couldn't wait for a replacement to be shipped I tried a repair. I twisted each wire together and soldered the twists. I then used shrink wrap on each wire finshing with a long piece of shrink wrap on the outside. It worked for me and I now have the new transducer in the spare parts cabinet.
