automotive battery for 50hp yam

Question

My starting battery on my boat is toast. My subuaru died a couple months ago and I took the battery (which is almost new) can I use the battery in my boat? or does it have to be a marine battery?

I used a Delco battery from my car for a couple of years with no problems. A marine battery may be a little better for the impacts that a boat sees, but it worked for me. Just make sure it is strapped down.

If you keep your battery in a battery box and tied down you'll not need to worry about it. For the starting battery what you need cranking amps, marine or not. You could spend a bunch of money on a closed cell gell battery if you are worried about it tipping over and electrolite messing things up, but aside from the wing nut connectors on a marine starting battery and perhaps a carrying strap built into the battery you're pretty much looking at apples and apples.

Deep cycle or trolling motor, ice house type applications are a different story.

Use what you have.
