Rusk County Musky Fishing?

Recommended Posts

A good buddy of mine recently moved to Rice Lake. As an avid Musky hunter, I see the DNR says there are some good lakes in that area...Potato, Island, McCann, Big Falls Flowage..anyone have any experiences on these or other lakes in the area? Email is [email protected], any help would be appreciated, Thank you

I've fished Potato and the Island/Chain lakes. Potato seems to have slowed the past few years for both numbers and especially size although its still a good musky lake - just not as good as it once was. It gets green in the summer heat. On the Chain I've fished mostly McCann and Chain and its nice water to fish - nice weeds plus rock points to fish. The sleeper in the area is Rice Lake itself, has been putting out some real nice fish the past few years.

Fireside, Sand, and Amacoy are also good musky lakes in the area. Long Lake off of Hwy 40 is clear and can be tough to fish but has some dandies - the cabbage weeds are making a comeback there. Try Long at night wink.gif

Thanks for the info guys.

I will be heading up in that vicinity Tuesday after Memorial Day when the tourists go bye bye, there very well might be an open seat in my boat for a day or two if anyone has any interest as well. One of those days I am trekking up to Amnicon finally too
