Regulations Question

Recommended Posts

Two questions on WI regs

1) Is there a TIP line?

2) What are the regs for bait? In MN you can use creek chubs, suckers, bullheads under 7", and other non-carp rough fish for cut or live bait. I know some states allow other fish as well. Wondering what the reg is in WI?

Lunker

For bait, in the reg pamphlet.. Here is what is not allowed..

Gold Fish... Alwife (Unless on Lake Michigan, Green Bay, or their tribs to the first dam or lake).. Crayfish (except on the Mississippi and on Lake Superior [except for Lake Superiors tribs or streams])... Game fish (except if they meet the minimum length limit on the lake you are fishing [must be caught on that waterway as well]).... Oh, and you can not release unused baitfish into any waterway...

This is all explained on page 7 of the WI regs...

367 is also a cell phone TIP number...

For bait rules your best bet is to go to the WI DRN HSOforum. However, unlike MN, chubs, sucker, bullheads, etc can be any size for bait. You can also use bluegills, perch, etc but note they must be from the same body of water and count towards your bag limit. Ex. you can't go to lake X and catch bullheads and take them to lake Y for bait.

Hope this helps, if not fire away and I'll let you know or check the regs for ya if I don't. Later.

So you can't you use cut-bait from another body of water? Example, could I use dead, cut-up creek chubs and use them for cats in the WI river?

Thanks for the info
