COLD GOOD! WARM BAD!

Excellent weather! It looks like this cold spell might extend our icefishing season a couple more weeks. SWEET!

I would like to put the extra time to good use by catching some bull sunnies. If anyone would like to share their secret spot with me, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm willing to drive anywhere in the state (MN). Thanks.

Share a secret bull bluegill spot?!!!

That's almost like asking to share a spouse/girlfriend! Only worse.

I hear that the bulls are going nuts in areas that are really far away from East Central MN. Ha-ha.

I've got a few bull trips in mind but I like to wait until this ice starts to rot from the edges of the lake before I get really serious. Pretty lame excuse, eh? This snow really has me in a tough spot. Go fishing? or Ride the vintage sleds? I've been fishing already this "winter" and the lack of snow really put the damper on snowmobiling, so I'm taking my chances and betting that the sunnies will still be there after the snow melts away again.

I hear ya toad. But I thought, you don't know unless you ask. It's the first year I've ice-fished MN which means starting from scratch. Thankfully I discovered this forum and some great people on it who helped me narrow down my search. It has definitely added to my number of successful fishing trips.

thanks & good luck

The attitude here is more like "I would tell you, but then I would HAVE to kill you!"

Bull gills are hard to come by, and when an angler steps foot into the magical world of 'frisbee like" fish, he never wants to peep another word.

Pulling up a bull gill is like nothing else. For one, you know it's a gil, by the way it spirals its way tuggishly up the hole.

I am no different on the subject of Bluegills, as the 9" and better fish become extinct very easily.

All I can do is wish best of luck to you, and hope you find yourself in BullGill land.

Well I like late ice fishing as much as the next guy, maybe more.

Winter is getting old now so I would have been just as happy to see the warming trend continue. God has different plans for now the way it would appear?

The perch and pike bite is great, so that will keep me happy tell things turn warm for good.

It's all good right? Drill now, troll latter.

COLD GOOD! SNOW BAD!

It's all over but the crying. This is what we didn't need. I think this will all but finish off our icefishing season. Who's as bummed as I am? I guess we can always drive north, Oh ya, and there's always summer fishing.

Hawgtime, you are probably right. The past few weeks if you couldn't drive out you could pull a sled pretty easy with no snow. But now with all the snow a guy would kill himself if he tryed to pull a sled any distance. The ticket would be an ATV or snowmobile but unfortunately I don't have one. We'll have to see how it goes.Good Luck Fishing!!!

12-in snow thru this area, wind was strong so maybe all blew to one side of lake. Perch bite is still good at Lake Pelican near Watertown SD, Wuabay is good for perch and an occasinal walleye. crappies at Pickeral.

I would like to add this from a different point of view:

I think this snow is a blessing for extending the ice fishing season. It was nice and cold up until we received this snow, and now the snow is going to act like an insulator and keep our ice from melting off! The sun has to melt all the snow before it can begin melting the ice, so I say put her in 4HI and let'r rip!

What about the guys that bought new boats and want to slop them up with crappie slime and have it bake into the Carpet. All while wearing a T-Shirt.

grabs

I guess the ice is doomed either way, but this time of the year I alway think with snow comes warm weather which melts the snow which deteriorates the ice that much faster. Needless to say our days are numbered. Anyway. I kinda have the URL itch. I'm thinking once the metro ice is shot (next couple weeks i suppose) we should get 4 guys (or what ever they sleep) together and rent a sleeper for a saturday night. What do you think?

I may be interested, depending upon when you go. Don't the houses have to be off this weekend?

I am still considerig another trip to Winnie possibly the first weekend in April if the ice holds.

After the 22nd should be just about perfect because I think we have one maybe two more weekends of icefishing 'roud here, first weekend in April sounds good. I think Grabs is right about the permanent houses though, so if we planned to fish the night we would have to figure out a portable house arrangement. Just heading out, so chat later.
