Last spring and summer fishing was great on Pionsett. The problem this year will be if the water doesn't come up some you won't get a boat in the lake till the GF & P get the new boat landing finished in late june.

Poinsett is a bowl lake. Grapes point on the north side has a good drop off, but the lake is pretty much flat. Crankbaits and spinners worked well in Poinsett for me last year.

How much has the lake come up? I wonder if we'll be able to use the LakeView Launch this year?

Yes, up one foot Rost....wont take long to evaporate that off if we dont get some heavy rains. Do you have any info on the D. Sportsman this year? Is that a done deal, or did someone step in and take it over?

Well Hi Ryan! Mr. Bullhead, how have you been lately? I suppose you been busy calving huh? Hope all is going well!

Yes, the Dakota Sportsman is not on this year. The water levels are just too low. Hopefully it will be back in the future though.

Good to see you on this site! Please stick around, eh!

I was there on Saturday, and the water was running in from Dry Lake. Not hard, but at a pretty good pace.

Lost of carp in the fast water, and they are big uns.

Heya Bullhead, I talked to your bride on Saturday morning, It sounded like you've been on the milk run..

Man I have a good time just driving around up that way!

Hey Rost,

Yeah, right smack in the middle of calving.....just about half done. Everything has been going real well. I was sorry to hear the D.S. was off this year. Had a great time last year, regardless of the weather. Would be fun to get a group of guys together for a weekend of camping/fishing if nothing else during that same general time? Just throwing that out... wink.gif

reddog: Sorry I missed you last weekend! Have been running that night route quite a bit on the weekends, which requires me to sleep a good part of the day away. frown.gif Did you drop a line on Poinsett, or were you just passing by?

Great HSOforum guys, will try to check in here more often.

The girls wanted to sleep in at the motel, so I told them I wasnt going to lay around and wait for them to get up. I decided to take the dogs out for a run and look at the farm equipment shops in Brookings.

I wanted to check out Millborn Seeds there too, but they were locked up.

While I was doing that, I kinda slapped myself along the side of the head. I shoulda brought a fishin rod and some tackle along. Well, I couldnt get it out of my head that I could be fishin, so I headed off to the local tackle shop/gas station. I bought a cheap rod and reel combo, about a dozen jigs and a couple bags of Gulp.

Headed to Oakwood, but couldnt really find any place to fish that looked fishy. I decided to head to Poinsett, and pitch jigs at the inlet if it was running or head over by Prestrudes (sp?) if the inlet wasnt running.

There were lots of big carp running the spillway between Dry and Poinsett and I was plenty content to just stand there and catch em. It was alot of fun and I met a couple great guys from Arlington. Had a real nice chat with them, for about 2 hours, then I had to head out.

I went to Flandreau after that and couldnt get near the place. When I drove up, I was like.... Holy dump, there must be a bite going here. After talking with a local, it appeared it was just one of those nice days when everyone turned out to pitch a line. I then headed down the Big Sioux in search of less congested waters.

Ended up in Brandon, then went to the Hockey game in Sioux Falls.

Another great day, in a great state!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
