Hog Hunting Article

Yep I have been to texas the last 5 years hunting hogs. They are a lot of fun to hunt! We already have a trip planned for a 3 day hunt in TX next February and are talking about adding another 3 day hunt at a second outfitter to it so we can stay down there and hunt for a longer period of time. I will try to post some pics from our trip this year.

The place we went to this year he gave us a deal - If we could gaurantee him 8 hunters we could hunt for 650 per person for a 3 day hunt/ 3 hogs total(3 meat hogs or 1 trophy and 2 meat). They don't charge any extra if you kill a trophy boar. If you want a trophy they will do everything they can to get you a shot at one. Normally it would be 800 per person for a 3 day hunt. That includes your room - 2 people to a room, 2 double beds in each room and shower and bathroom, and 3 meals a day. You can also shoot a bobcat for a 250 kill fee and you can shoot all the coyotes you want for no charge, when you are going out to stand if you see a coyote - it is on!!! They will drive through anything to get a shot at them because there are so many down there and they kill the young calves. This is my fifth year going down hog hunting and this place is the best by far we have ever had. Just the overall hunting plus how good they treat you for the price is great!

Teal - the place we go isn't a high fence hunt. It is over 40,000 acres of land. The only fences on the land are for the cattle and the hogs just push the barb wire up out of the way to get through it. I agree you have to be careful about which one you go with, this place is an outfitter but it is a hunt not a hog shoot. There are no gaurentee's on getting or seein anything. This year we had a rough hunt, it was towards the end of their season so the hogs were getting pretty wise. But it was still a blast and the guides really worked their butts off trying to find hogs for us to take a crack at.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
