Early season

Just wondering how early in the season people start fishing for carp. I mainly fish the rivers in the summer but would like to get out sometime soon. Thanks for any help

I will be out once the water slows a bit, best time when water temps around 50.

Don’t forget the lakes. I have good success for lake carp within a week after ice out. Look for shallow bays on the north sides of lakes. I usually fish in areas where I can physically see the fish flopping around. Try using corn under a small slip bobber.

I've been to the mighty mississip a few times this spring with limited success. Best spots are where warm water is coming in.

Shallow, muddy flats with emergent vegetation attract pre-spawn carp. Some guys are already catchign big carp on flyrods by sight-casting to them in clear water lake margins. Lakes and marshes are the ticket, the river carp are on the move and looking for a place to spawn.
