Yes they're worth it, as long as you have a Vexilar first. I can only speak to the Vista-Cam,because that's what I own. I really enjoy using it on most lakes, with a few exceptions.LOW, leave it home. The water is too stained or something. Minnetonka, excellent in the winter, but too stirred up in the summer (like most lakes). Mille Lacs, the BEST! I bring my camera to some lakes, I bring my Vexilar to all lakes.

I have only used a Vista-cam and Loved it. The one I used had a Vexilar right it the box with the camera, so I could look at the Vexliar and the camera at the same time. I used it on Minnetonka and Winnie and the clarity was great.

I have a Vista Cam and I like using it. I agree that having a Vexilar with it helps very much. With either kind of camera you buy, it really isn't going to help you catch more fish, but they can really be a blast to use! I definitely think the fun is worth the price.

They won't help you catch a ton more fish, but they definetly help you catch some.
At the Winni tourney, we used a cam and if it were not for it, many strikes wouldve gone undetected, they were biting that light.
So light in fact that when they hit, you couldnt even detect it with a noodle rod, 2lb test and a spring bobber.
As far as the type of cam, I've only really used the Aqua Veiw. I recently aquired a Vista cam to "Test drive", so I'll let everyone know how they compare soon.
Good luck

Underwater cameras are definately worth it.As many times as I've been told how to catch fish or read about how to do it, being able to actually watch how different fish react to different presentations or lure size ect...really sticks in my head. The first time I say a wall of crappies come through on the camera I about freaked it was awesome,I'll never forget.

As far as what camera do you want? I personally haven't noticed any difference in camera quality, how far you can see and picture clarity. I've fished with the Aqua Vu, Vista cam, Atlantis, and Marcum VS500. I just got the Marcum a couple days ago (the guy at Thorne Bros twisted my arm and made me do it). The lake I usually fish is full of algae, so once the sun goes down usually you can't see anything. With the marcum I could still see about 5'. I was impressed. As far as price goes I think they are all fairly comperable.

One thing to think about is if you are planning on being really mobile you don't want a big pain in the but to drag around, you want something you can grab and go. I beleive the Aqua Vu fits that bill. I'm not sure how portable the Vista is, the one I used was old and kind of bulky, and had a hard case that the handle broke off of right away.

OH LOOK I'VE RAMBLED AGAIN!!!!

Good luck!

If you're on the ice a lot, portability is an issue. The Vista Cam "Combo Cam" is the answer here. You carry your camera and vexilar in the same unit. It's light, mobile and easy to carry. Y

es, you can even use it at night on a lake like Mille lacs.

If you strictly fish a lake like lake of the Woods, the water clarity is too stained to make any camera of much use.

Check the Combo Cam out at:

Rick,
I checked out the link and didn't see where you can buy a case that holds the combo Vista-Vex. I already have both, but the case with the 5" monitor looked slick!
Can I buy just the case with the monitor, or do I have to buy a whole new camera, etc.?
Thanks!

I own an older Vista Cam, and it is not as simple and portable as the new Aqua Vu's. I like mine because I can watch TV or listen to the radio when the fish are not biting. I can also use the TV set anywhere. Its a great all around tool and multi-purpose.

Thought I'd throw my two cents in here. I have a VS-300 and use it on Lake of the Woods. Granted you don't have the visability as on some of the clearer lakes but it can still be valuable. I use it for looking at the structure I'm on. Many times walleyes travel on subtle break lines in structure, say sand to mud or rock to sand. With a flasher it is hard to pin point the transition line but with a camera it is quite clear. I often use it "Genz style" with the camera tie strapped back to the cord so the camera points straight down. If you can afford to have a flasher first then a camera it is another good tool to help put the odds in your favor.

CD,
the New Vista Cam Deluxe can do everything you're talking about. Easily Portable as well.

Gonzo,
The Combo Cam only comes as a complete Unit with the Camera. It's a very slick unit, especially for those who use a Vexilar.
