MnSportsman
I used the "UBB Code", that is at this webpage:http://fishingminnesota.com/ubb/ubbcode.html This information & more is contained in the FAQ[Frequently Asked Questions] page that most Internet forums, & bulletin boards provide to it's members/users. The FAQ for this excellent forum is located at the top of each forum page(upper right corner on some pages, center of page on most main pages)under the words Post New Topic,and/or, Post Reply. This is the webpage if ya don't see it right away.http://fishingminnesota.com/ubb/faq.html#HTML[it's a good idea to read all of the FAQ on any site.] Going back to topic...Make sure that you attach a "blade" to the rigs shown above with a "clip-ring" to make them into an "artificial lure", otherwise,in Minnesota, you'd be breaking the law/regulations.[i believe this was pointed out earlier in this topic, I just wanted to point it out again] Good Luck!See ya out there! [P.S.- Hiya, Thumper! Catch any trout on the Vermillion? Good to see "you" on here again too! I'm gonna need knee surgery in a few weeks I'm told, so ya may see me on here even more. Stay in touch.] ------------------Good Luck & Watch your bobber!MnSportsmanProud to be a member in good standing, of the "Church of the Divine Wilderness"! Thumper
MnSortsman, sorry to hear of your need for knee surgery, hope it is the orthro-scopic kind and your recovery is quick! I did not get to try the Vermillion, got pretty involved with the Miss. and the Croix, for Walleye and Sauger resulting in some fun fishfries with the grandkids. Good Luck, get well soon. ------------------Thumper

Steve Foss
Eddy:On the herring, the only place I've ever found them sold is at the bait shops in Devils Lake, where they have a huge following. I've used them and would keep using them if I could find them in Minn/Wis.Any suggestions?I also use quick-strike rigs when tip-up fishing. No waiting, just set the baby and feel the power. I use them when I'm once in awhile fishing big suckers under a slip bobber for late fall pike, too, for the same reason. With a quick strike, if you're attentive, you set the hook while it's still in the fish's mouth, instead of waiting with a single hook to be sure of your hooking, by which time the hook's often swallowed and you've got to cut the line and probably kill the fish. fiskyknut
STFBaitshops around LOTW usually have Herring and most of the other popular frozen baits come ice season.
Guest
I'd rather eat smelt than use them for bait but I'm just curious as to what these shops charge for frozen smelt and herring. Do they sell them per pound or per piece ? I have a case in the freezer but I don't think that Pike would like the tempura batter that they're coated in !! :^)
IcePro
A little trick to help improve the scent is to insert a Cod Liver Oil Pill into the dead smelt. As the pill disolves it will release the Cod Liver Oil into the water.
