Is the deep frost going to affect planting time??

I guess that's the question. I know it depends on what the rest of the winter/spring will do. How early do some of you guys start planting annuals, and while we are at it the garden also.

Mid May for me. At least the touchy plants like tomatoes, peppers... I do lettuce, brocoli, and such earlier, It's a good idea to follow labels and zone for planting times. I've planted earlier around here, and have had some freezouts. I've also planted up until June with great results.

For SW Minnesota, the average last date of frost is May 11. You will want to either keep your annuals covered, or wait until after May 11. Check with your local Extention Agent, as well. They can give you the best planting dates for your area.

It depends on what you want to plant, pansies ,violas, alyssum and snap dragons are very cold tolerant and will survive a hard frost, upper 20s. You must still wait for the ground to be at least 60 degrees or anything you plant will just sit there.
