Chips for lowrance Gps?

What chips do some of you use for your lowrance gps units. I am talking blank chips, my dad has map create and i want to make a chip or two off of it. What chips have you guys had success with? Are there chips that you can re-write over? Also, where is a good place to get a decent selection of chips? thanks in advance

Any SD/MMC will work I wouldn't go with anything under 512 MB, even the 2 gig card's are pretty reasonable now a days.

I usually watch the Sunday paper circulars for good deals you can expect to pay between $10 and $70 for a SD card.

My Camera uses SD cards as well so I get to use them for other applications which is nice.

i got an SD card from walmart today. when i went to create the map it said "please insert mmc/sd card". do i need to get a chip that is mmc and sd? i didn't look close enough to the package and noticed it only says SD, no mmc.

NO any SD card will work.

Are you using the Mapcreate card reader or a different card reader?

You should buy a large chip for the MapCreate because the program will only write to five different chips and that is it. It is written into the programming. You can change the content of any of the chips, but only those chips can be written to.

It is the mapcreate card reader. I will try again and see what happens. I did see that you can only use 5 chips so i bought a 1GB. Should do the trick.

Since I got an H2Oc handheld with the MN Lakemaster chip and then the 334GPS / Depth Finder, I wanted to create a chip that would work in both units. Right in the booklet it stated that the chip owner can create one copy for backup or archive, but when I copy the contents of the GPS chip to a standard SD Ram chip, it cannot display the contour info. It must be another file type that cannot be copied to a standard SD Ram Card. I see the Lakemater Chip has onlt 4 gold pins with a printed circuit, and the regular SD Ram chip has 5 or 6 pins. Like the Lakemaster chip is proprietary use hardware. The weird thing is, that you can download an advanced Gull Lake lake map from the lowrance HSOforum, put it into a standard SD Ram card, and it will display correctly in the GPS unit, all depth contours visible. I need to figure out how to do this correctly.. maybe importing the Lakemaster data into Map Create, save data back into a big SD Ram card, and then I will hopefully have 2 chips.. one for the hand held and one for the boat unit334. Anybody out there try to make a good working copy? Any suggestions are helpful. Just like I didn't know the Lowrance reader will onlt use 5 cards. EVER. Thanks, Paul W.
