Power surge to Humminbird -- any ideas??

I would really appreciate any help you can offer on this one. I have no mind for electronics.

My Humminbird 565 is connected to the starter battery (with in-line fuse). When I crank the engine, often the Humminbird screen will go blank (turn off). Sometimes there is a quick warning message that pops up too.

It fried the unit last summer, so I sent it in for repairs. Don't want to do that again this year. Any ideas?? Do I need a seperate battery source for the sonar? Wrong fuse type?? Thanks!!!

You need to connect it to a separate source possibly not directly to starter battery.

What happens is that you are drawing too much power when you start motor and battery drops below minimum voltage required, the message you see on the screen is probably LOW VOLTAGE warning.

Yo could shut unit off momentarely the back on after motor is started. ALso if you have a new battery available, try to switch it with your current, it could be it's a little weak/small and doesn't hold as it supposed to.

It is not a fuse problem, stick with the suggested type from mfg.
