Anyone have an idea how much it will cost for a shop to repair worn seals rings on the lower unit of a 4 stroke? Thanks!

It depends from motor brand, size, year, etc.

Thanks Valv. It is a 2003 Yamaha F75 Four Stroke. I've been told by a well known Yamaha dealer that parts and labor will be about $500. We are trying to get it covered by warranty.

Unless it was caused by gross negligence it has to be covered under warranty, motor has 7 years, which means 4 years left.

My handle comes from my favorite spots to fish. Thankfully, I have never damaged a lower unit. (Knocking on my wood desk as I type). My current issue is with a boat I recently purchased. I had a mechanic check everything out, and the only thing he found wrong was the seals/rings on the lower unit. Not happy that I need a repair before getting it in the water, but I got good value on the purchase of an 04 boat with 03 outboard. I didn't have a mechanic take a look before the purchase because I knew the boat would move quick, and there was another buyer coming to look. I brought a friend and we inspected the boat carefully for an hour before I agreed to purchase. Can't wait to hit the water.

Where are you located ? I have a guy that does sidejobs and he might be cheaper then dealer
