I used something similar to ice flecks. They do work but freeze up when out of water. At least you don`t have to worry about putting your hand in water all the time. But, you have to change them every so often. I used them for perch. Fish On

I have used the panfish pork of open water fishing and they work ok, but are hard to find and expensive at like $5 a jar of 20. It would be a good idea to have some pork and some power wigglers in your box just in case, but i'd think spikes would out produce.
They should not fall of unless your hook barb is messed up, most have oil on them and you should not have to change them
