Hay Dark when do you plan on haveing the first rat meet this year? Got the new no-roll sinker mold 3-4-5oz, so am looking for lead. Any one know how the water is up sleepyeye way is like? Going to head up that way this weekend. Got that Monkey trainded good. Hes a fishing fool now. Let me know when the first meet is ok?

Haven't really given it much thought yet.
we'll see how the river behaves...might be more of a last minute type deal.

Hey Dragon good to see you're still kickin'!! The cats have been hittin' pretty good in our area.Last weekend the river was pretty high and moving pretty good.I'm going to check it out tonite so I'll let you know where it's at now.I spoke to my brother and he said it's dropping pretty quick.A person needs to do some scouting,Old brush piles are gone and new ones were made.Whats you're e-mail. Dark I was up that way about 3 weeks ago. Found two hot spots but could only fish one. It was a long night, Only had two runs, The 1st only lasted 15 sec, snaped 40 lb line in a hart beat, Had to be a big one was running up river in fast water. The 2nd had to be small, couldn't get the bait all the way in, You know I like to use BIG bait. Let me know when and where for the meet.

Jig my e-mail is [email protected] Ya I here tell of a new wood pile that I have got to try some time this year. It has been a good spot in years past, got to be better now. Iam sure you know where it is. You know where they tried to blow up that big old gray rock? Well I hear that theres a big old wood pile on top of them rocks now. Headed up that away around noon on sat. Hope to hear from ya.

Dragon,Longhorn area looks like where we're heading Sat. nite! Some dandy new piles!(the old ones just got bigger)I just got back from the river and the ramps are alittle muddy due to the dropping water but are still usable.My brother and a buddy are out tonite from 4 ramp.I'll send a e-mail in the am.Let's say they're startin' Good cattin' (I'll take some of those sinkers) Jigster

Anyone up for a river rat meet at Kettners landing on the 17th of July. That be up sleepy-eye way. Should be a good weekend, It's a NO moon weekend. Any one up to it let me know and I wil bring the grill, a little BSen, go over some old and new ideas then hit the river for the big one?

wow i wonder if i can talk the wife into letting me fish the lets event during the day and a rat meet at night. need to get to a cat gathering to learn how to fish out of a boat (more where to fish out of a boat) guess ill have to look into this one.

There are two landings. One at hwy#4 the outher one is kettners landing about 3-4 mi up river of hwy4 on the south side of the river. There is a lot of good ground to fish most of it by boat. More log and wood piles than most part of the river.

If you check out the last two posts with the pic of the big flats they came from that part of the river. I belive that the only reason we have a lot of 40+ fish is that some of us from IA, have teamed up with a few MN river rats that belive in CPR. And we preach CPR to any one and to every one we meet.

I'm in the same boat as Troutman. LETS during the day and cat gathering at night. That's one long day and night of fishing! So when we going Trout, right after the LETS? grin.gif

Here's the deal Iam going to be at kettners landing at noom July 17th of 04. I will have the grill set up with a batch of venison sausage cooking for who ever. I have two types of sinkers to hand out the no-roll and the Flat bank sinker in 3,4 and 5 oz. I also can show you the rigs that I run ie, Hook size, both stright and circle hooks. Bait tanks, to the river and on the river. Bottem fishing or bobber, I will show you the biggest bobber you have ever seen that works on both cats grin.gif

Nightwholf will be there and he can tell you all about dip baits. And College he can give a lot of good info on fishing from shore on that part of the river (I may have to drag him kicking and screaming) also in the past few years this kid has become one hell of a river rat. Just ckeck out the post about weekend fishing report. Wambat is a sure bet to be there and you can see his first flat and the biggest at iowadeer.com on the catfish forum.

If your there,then you are. If not, then hope we can meet at a later date. The only thing we ask is CPR. If your going to eat fish then keep a few small ones and CPR the rest.

Well I was contemplating fishing in the bobbshop dealie but it sounds much better to be somewhere other than the mankato stretch of river that weekend. Last year it was a mad house. People everywhere and every place you could possibly think of to fish.

So yes so count me in I will be at the rat meet! I have heard many stories from dragon about the mean kitties that live up there and add in a no moon weekend. Sounds like just the right ingrediants!

well it looks good so far if i go i wont get there till 7 or 8 got the lets event during the day. sorry lucky i got a partner for that night . and your right that will be a long day and night. i hope to get some rod holder ideas. and get a few tips for fishing out of a boat.

      got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out

      Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!

      we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
