Steve Foss
Just had a pair of cardinals at my feeder here in Ely. Nice birds on New Year's Eve. Unfortunately, they don't stick around long. I got a few images through the window and they were gone. Hope they come back.

buzzsaw
Here's what they look like during a snowfall.
Steve Foss
Hey cool, Buzz. That's tremendously close to how they look when it's not snowing, too. Seriously, though, nice images.
buzzsaw
Thanks Steve, I only wish the second shot didn't have a big piece of dead flower blocking half of the bird... oh well, we can only keep trying for those "perfect" images right. I set up a blind in my backyard and see alot of Cardinals... I just need to make time to photograph them more now.
Steve Foss
Well, I for one can understand why people like bird portraits where the bird in totally unobscured, but I actually like it just fine when that's not the case. If a photo is going to reflect nature, shouldn't it allow natural elements as they naturally occur?

I hear you, but you can also wait or spend more time in the wilderness (or backyard) trying to get a "better" unobscured shot. I personally prefer an image to be eye level with no branches or bushes blocking the view of the subject, but surrounding the subject with outdoor elements is good. Thats just me.
