Propane question

was out fishing this week and the heater was not burning properly and would only burn very low. I dumped hot water on the regulator and it fixed the problem for a whil and it then burned on low again. Is the regulator Bad???

Was the tank getting all frosted up? If so your tank is probably too small for the heater. Larger heaters require a bigger tank, something to do with the pressure I think. That's about the one thing I know about LP tanks.

Its not the tank size cause i have run the same heater for 5 years with the tank. almost like the rugulator is freezing up?????

If there is moisture in the line and the cold propane is freezing it up it could be being blocked by ice or frost. Sounds like you may want to clean that line out. Try hanging it vertically so all the moisture drains to the side with an opening.

ice in the regulator???.Otherwise why would it work with hot water on regulator?

Tank size won't matter because the pressure is the same in a 5lb cylinder as it is in a 100lb cylinder. There is a screen on the regulator that may be getting iced up or it is plugged up. Icing happens in a normal Minnesota winter but not this mild one. If the screen isn't plugged then replace the regulator. There shouldn't be anything in the line unless you left one end of it open over the summer?

The screen is actually a vent that allows the regulator to maintain a certain pressure. If it gets iced up like your saying, it won't function properly. Probably why your heater isn't running right, the regulator isn't allowing enough gas to the heater. The reg. uses a spring to maintain pressure, bring the reg. inside and let it dry out or unscrew the cap with a large flat screwdriver and look inside, I'd bet there is water in it. Don't adjust the spring pressure if it was working fine before. Hope this helps!
