Catfish Tourneys

Any one know if and when there is going to be another Mankato Cat tourney?

Also, I see that the Belle plain tourney is a Saturday and Sunday instead of what I remember it as a Friday and Saturday time frame. Is this change a hint at larger changes that are going to be made to this years tourney? I am still trying to figure if they have gotten a clue about running this tourney finally and if those changes warrant me taking the time to look into fishing it again.

According to the minnesota river valley, the annual belle plain cat killing weekend ( I mean tourney) is August 7-8. Saturday and Sunday.

I am only going to consider the bobber shop tourney this year. Sounded like they had everything put together well for a sucessful release of any kitties brought in during last years tourney. Plus the fact that they only paid out for the top 3 or 4 cats instead of the paying out for random size cat's like Belle plain did/does. I heard that people were able to contact the weigh-in people via cell phone or 2 way radios to find out what the size of fish were weighed already and if theirs were not big enough, they released them before driving the many miles bouncing in the boat and down a highway to then only find out that their fish wasn't going to place.

I'm hoping that Belle Plain scheduled Saturday and Sunday so that weigh ins could be made throughout the night instead of having to wait until the following morning. I stopped fishing that tourney years ago because of the way they handled the weigh ins and release of the fish. Too many big cats died because of the way the tourney was run. I was only considering it again when a friend of mine wanted to try a cat tourney. I was greatly pleased to hear that he was busy the weekend of the belle plain tourney so I didn't have to make up some lame excuse as why I couldn't fish it. If hes busy the weekend of the bobber shop tourney, I will probably choose to sit that one out as well.

There is another tourney being organized by Dean Opatz and Ozzy?,mid August I believe.I don't have the exact dates yet.
This will be run very proffesionally and great care will be taken to make sure all cats are treated well.I plan on fishing this one for sure.

Any one know the Franklin dates?

Catfish Derby Days is July 23, 24, and 25, 2004. Fishing contest; tournaments-softball, volleyball, chess, horseshoe; street dance; square dance; pageant; flea market; Sunday parade; food and beer stands; fun for everyone.

I don't think the contest runs all 3 days.

Boat marshalls, check-in times, high tech digital scale, Right now we're are still waiting for the MNDNR for proper permits. By the way did I mention it was going to pay $3500.00 to win. Will that tourney be a big fish only, or for total creel weight?

Also, would this tourney eventually replace the annual Belle Plain tourney? I am just curious as to how many big tourneys is realistic on the stretch of river.

Also, you mentioned boat patrols. Good idea, but if the river levels will be in the same state they are now, really LOW, how will the boat patrol thing work if they can't navigate the waters? Just throwing it out there.

I think Opatz knows Doug Stange, I think. Stange would probably be able to help get a tourney of this caliber started. But then again, you all might have gone that path already.

good luck with getting it set up. Sounds like it could be a good thing.
