Thanks Rusty!
I had a great time.I always say that when I get back from an FM event and mean it but this time I had a really great time.
The fishing was awsome!I have no idea how many cats we cought, but I am sure it went well over the 50 mark on saturday and sunday morning they were hitting good too.You have a wonderfull and productive river to play in.
You did a great job orgainizing this event and I can't wait untill next year!!Of course I just might have to try to find time to get up there again before next year! smile.gif
No need to appologize about the water wall.I got a kick out of it and after all I didn't get wet.I always loved a good squirt gun fight when I was younger. Now we have 175 hp River Pros for squirt guns! grin.gif

It was good meeting all that showed up.It would have been a lot of fun to hang out with every one another day and really get to know everyone.Great bunch of folks!
And sorry Timmdog about scaring away your goldeye school.I didn't realize that you were casting there the whole time.We did however need to put a stop to that fishing goddess in your boat.Maybee scaring the goldeye gave us a little better shot at big fish! smile.gif

Dennis, now it's my turn to head south and hunt flatties. How is the bite down there.. Is spawn in full run now?? They should be feeding up real soon???

They should be on the spawn now.You can still pick up a fish here and there though. There not quite as tough to get as channels on the spawn.Just move a little more.
When are headed down? I might run into you on the river.

Nice to meet some of the guys Saturday night. I wish we could have gotten in early enough to fish on Saturday, but flat tires don't roll very well.
We caught a few fish Sunday morning; Ben was hammering little smallmouths off the wall. He got a five pound sheephead for biggest fish of the trip. I got a four inch stonecat for smallest. grin.gif
The only downside of that end of the trip (except for sleeping in the van in a thunderstorm) is that my new landing net walked off. I'm sure I picked it up when we left the dam, but apparently I left it in the boat and someone decided they needed it more than I did. mad.gif Bummer.
Drayton, well, sucked. The water is very high, my anchor wouldn't hold. The mosquitoes were atrocious. The ramp was bad.
Drayton does not like fishermen. There was a sign at the campground basically saying "Fishermen go somewhere else" "No boats allowed in campground". There is no infrastructure to handle fishermen- no cleaning houses, no docks, nothing. I don't think I'll go back. I'll just fish around Fargo and maybe try Canada. I'm tired of having to convince businesses to take my money. I mean, what would it cost to have a halfway decent screened cleaning house down by the dam (I don't mean that rickety old heap up by the toilets!) How about a fishermen-friendly campground, and maybe a restaurant that stays open late at least on weekends? It wouldn't take so very much effort to maintain a few more access points for shore fishermen. A dock at the landing in town? Maybe that's asking too much. <soapbox mode:OFF >
Anyhow, congrats to wiskers and a big "HATS OFF" for a gathering well done. I'm looking forward to more. Last time I fished the dam in Crookston was 25 years ago, and it was nice to go back.

Scubohuntr,

I'm still trying to put faces to names & names to faces. Anyway, my dad & myself fished the river all day Saturday with most of the people I met. We were the 2 guys in hipboots out on the sand bar most of the day. Later in the evening, Catfishhunter & myself took Rusty's little boat out into the river. We Finally made it out to the Northland Inn on Saturday night which proved to be worth our while.

The cats I plan on eating this weekend will definitely remind me of the trip. Watch out Horseshoe chain, Red River, & Minnesota river cats... I'll be after you from now one!!!

It was a great time; the weather co-operated with us and everyone, at least I think everyone, caught fish of some sort. My nose looks like it just might peel, and I know the top of my feet will peel, such a small trade off for a good weekend of fishing right?

The door prizes were great, I'll be back for sure.

Man I am soooo sorry to hear about the net.. I guess another fella that lives in town had his fishing stuff taken out of his truck also Sat. night right in the parking lot of the apartments he lives at....

Some peoples children!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That really angers me..

I think that fishing contest on Sat. was a great idea.. I really had fun with it.. Who knows mabey next year we will have more members show up and have an even bigger pot.

See you all on the water................

Hanson,
we were fishing off the wall late Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Looked like you guys were doing better on cats than we did. Dennis and crew landed a couple of really nice ones, too late for the contest, of course. I'm going to have to get up to Canada sometime soon- I bought a bunch of circle hooks at Cabelas on the way up to Drayton and never had a chance to use em. Maybe I can figure out a way to catch carp or something on them out here...
