Who's fishing Ice Opener and where?

With all this recent talk about ice fishing for trout I thought i would see who out there is gonna fish opening weekend and where everyone's favorite location was.

I will be heading up the Gunflint Trail in northern MN to hit a small rainbow, splake, and brown lake early in the morning and then finish the day off fishing for lakers on a couple other Gunflint lakes. Last year we got 2 rainbows and 1 brown over 20 inches on opener and a bunch of lakers.

I can't wait! grin.gif

I was thinking of trying out Christmas Lake near Minnetonka/Chanhassen sometime in January. The DNR surveys look promising for nice rainbows. I'd appreciate hearing if anyone else has had any luck there.

Wouldn't miss it, and I ain't telling where. cool.gif

I'll be winter camping and fishing for rainbows, splake, and lakers. But it'll be rainbows most of the time. It's great fun fighting a 20"+ 'bow under the ice while the ravens are cheering ya on, I can't wait.

Opener weekend normally would have found me on either Burntside or a small rainbow lake near home. However this year, I'll be spending 3 days up on lower manitou lake in Ontario. Was up to this area about 5 years ago and had my personal best day for lakers, catching 17 without having to move once (it was -23 that day, not too conducive to hole-hopping alot grin.gif)

Then it will be up to B-side for the Bash!!
