Thorne Brothers

Hello all,

I was looking at the Thorne Bros. HSOforum, and was looking at buying some of there ice fishing lures off line. I know I have seen a few guys say they like the Mousie jigs. My question is: Is this a must have for panfish, and my other question is what color seems to work best? I just ask the color because online you buy them in a pack of 5. Also did anyone make it to the seminar on Wed?

I heard the seminar was a great success! About 30 people attended. That would have been a great chance for you to fine tune your Panfish arsenal. But to answer your question I would go with a Ratso from Custom Jigs and Spins before the mousie. They are great for Crappies, Sunfish and Perch. Even the occasionsl Bass can't resist! I would go with White to start. This is the best all around color.

Good luck,

Corey Bechtold

I am a tackle monger... I dont have any of those.. I just looked at them on the TB web page.. I usually like a lure that fishes a little heavier.. I bet they catch fish though!!! Get some and let us know how they worked for you. As most know, I am a huge fan of the marmooska type jigs.

i will give ya a big second on the marmys dietz. they are the bomb. but can be a bit hard to find at times so dont tell to many people about them. ok??? heheheeh. ... paul

Paul, you need to take a look at some of the other great lures that are similar to Marmooskas. CJ&S Diamond Jigs, Fiskas Wolfram Jigs, Little Atom Optic Stealth are all very, very similar lures and very effective. If you like Marmooskas, you'll love these. smile.gif

The seminar was very informative, Matt did a great job. The Mousie jigs are on the light side. They work well for bluegills in shallow water, but the jigs Hanson mentioned above seem to work better for crappie and perch. As for color do as I do and get one of each and experiment. smile.gif

Take a look at the Fairy Jigs from Arnold/K&E Tackle. We stopped in on the way to the championship over in Alexandria last winter, Pat Smith reccomended the chartruse, and he was dead on. Most of our crappie catch were on Fairies, the two little clacker blades on top really caught their attention. Tied them on to short droppers off of spoons with a couple of spikes and caught lots of perch on them while there also. Other good jigs were from Marmish, Size one for gills, #2's and 3's for crappie. Comma's, Apple Seeds, Garlic Cloves and Barley jigs were good producers.
