KrashR
I bought some 777 pellets for my Hawken rifle, but didn't see the thing about they are only for use in inline muzzleloaders with 209 primers. Now mine does use a 209 primer, but isn't an inline. Is this a saftey thing or why do they say this?
mechanictim
The pellets have a hole down the middle that is where the spark from the primer needs to go to properly ignite the pellets. Your side lock may or may not ignite the pellets as your spark will hit the back and side of the pellet at an angle. If you do get ignition you may not get a good burn of the powder and that will affect accuracy.
KrashR
So would that mean that I wouldn't be able to use the regular Pyrodex pellets as well since I'm sure those have a hole down the center??
mechanictim
Pyrodex pellets have the same hole for the same reason plus the added feature of one end of the pellet has a black powder coating that has to be loaded toward the primer for good ignition. If you want a fast reload you will need a quick loader that you pour in a pre measured powder charge and has the bullet ready in a seperate compartment. These are usually just as fast as using pellets and allow you to use the load that is most accurate for your gun.
