Cut Bait

I was reading the regs today, and it says all rough fish besides carp can be used for cut bait. It say s bullheads limit is 100, under the game fish.But it also says that bullhead are a rough fish with unlimited limit, on the same page! Which is it? Can you use them for bait or not?

You can use bullheads for bait. I think they are supposed to be 6" or less.. but I dont think anyone would care if they were bigger.

Bullheads 7" or less are legal to use as bait.I have not had much luck using them for cut bait but using them live for flatheads is great!

I always here that bullheads are supposed to be under seven inches to but when I called the DNR a while back about bullheads for bait they didn't say anything about it. Where did the 7 inch rule get started and where is it in the regs?? Thanks.

The Minnesota Fishing Regulations pamphlet that you get when you buy your license is just a summary of the regulations.You can ask the DNR to send you a copy of all fish and game regulations and you will find it there.I saw a copy at 169 Sports in Belle Plain that Ozzy had and actually read the under 7" rule.

I have it in the minnow regulations. 7" and under is a legal bullhead for bait.

Has anyone had much luck fishing with bullhead as cut bait? I was thinking that if I don't catchany suckers or buffalo this spring id use bullheads. To bad cut carp are illegal, i catch plenty of those.

Lunker I have tried bullhead chunks for bait here in Ohio several different times. I never got a bite.
