Punch Bait

Guest

Recommended Posts

I have been using this type of bait along with my regulars of cut chubs and suckers. I started using this Punch bait last spring and I can tell you it works. I had to mix some rotton baby shad in the mixture to get it working good but this stuff is awesome. My biggest fish on it so far is a 25lb Channel. Does anyone else use Punch Bait? This stuff is not at all like dip bait because this stuff works. It stays on your hook too. I use my own mix.

I used a bait that was so thick you had to use a stick to get itin the goo.It was thicker than penut butter.I cought a lot of cats on the stuff.I can't remember what it was called but it was nasty smelling stuff.I opened up the jar at the bait shop to take a little wiff and the bait shop owner yelled at me!He darn near kicked me out of his shop too.

Sounds like Punch bait to me. The stuff is mostly made off rotten cheese as the base. Then you add some secret ingredients, and wa la. With the stuff I mixed myself, I out fished everyone with me, on 3 different days, 7 : 1. The stuff is really good at certain times of the year, outperforming anything else you could put on the end of your line.

WHat do you thicken it with?I read an article a couple years ago about the cat bait industry and this guy was using cattails as a thickening agent.I guess it made his bait really stick.
Do you have a secret recipie?
I heard of one bait that was made up of salmon eggs and shad guts.I thought it kinda strange but the guy said it realy worked good.

Yes sir I do have a secret recipe. You can use cattails or toilet paper to thicken it but if its to thick its hard to get on your hook. You want it to be almost like oatmeal or cream of wheat. You can thin it most of the time by just warming it up and stirring. If its to cold to keep thin its usually out of season to use. If the consitency is like what I just mentioned then it will work. If you don't get a bite in 10 - 15 minutes, theres no fish where your at. I might send you a little when I send your pole out.

By the way did you get your email of the handle? Maybe you could post it for everyone to see.

So whats the difference between Punch Bait and regular old Stink Bait? Smelly, gooey, stickey whatever the stuff is. I remember using stink bait as a kid. It kinda had the consistancy of play-dough and came in cheese or blood flavors. We really nailed the Channels Cats on it but they were always small ones.

There are many different baits out there. I would say (from my experience) that they are all classified under stink baits in general. Catfishing is my favorite type of fishing (Walleyes #2) and I have worked hard and spents thousands and thousands of dollars trying to find out the best equipment and bait. My line of catfish poles are the best in the world and the bait that I have come up with is the best that I have ever seen. The difference between the other baits and punch bait is :

The punch bait will stay on a regular treble hook, no sponge or other contraption needed.

The punch bait can be casted long distances without the worry of flying off.

It will stay on your hook in moderate current up to 3x longer than dip bait or the paste baits.

Punch bait is all hand made. Its not mass produced by some company that says they have the gene that promotes the cats to bite.

Some say it stinks and some days it will take the top of your head off. But it has a rather appealing odor once you have confidence knowing that it will catch fish.

The best thing about it is that you don't ever have to touch it. Just take your stick that you find along the bank of the water and use it to push your #4 treble down to bottom of the container and pull it out at a 45 deg. angle. Your hook is loaded and your ready to go.

I have been thinking about trying to put it on the market, but it is a lot of work and time getting it made up and netting the proper fish to mix in the mixture. Maybe I will be able to do so sometime this summer, making poles is taking up most of my time right now but you never know.

Greetings:

So how can a fella get ahold of some of that Bait to test it out and see the magic in action? I am always looking for new ideas and products to offer to my clients to keep them on the fish.

I have found that the stink baits work best in the spring and it tappers off as the summer goes on. Do you see the same results?

See you on the water.

Wiskers.

Hey Whiskers, Welcome aboard!

Always nice to see new rats on here. I use fresh cut bait but those Channels will smack alot of different baits won't they?...Kinda keeps you guessing.

Next time you make it down to the Minnesota give shout!

Hey guys, just rember that treble hooks, when not part of a "artificial lure" are illegal in MN. A simple way to solve this is to put a tiny spinner blade above the hook to make it a lure (dont quote me, I think that would work). You could probably put it above the swivel but that might violate the "spirit" of the law.

As I've posted a couple of times elsewhere - one thing that has worked for me is when using cut-bait, I put a spoonful of whatever dip/punch/scent I want into the ziplock I've got my fresh cut-bait chunks in. Leave in the fridge or cooler over night to "marinate". Easy to use, don't have to worry about treble hooks (I love circle hooks!), and it stays on the hook to boot.

What's not to like about that?

6" - the 'lure hardware' needs to be within 6" of the treble, or multiple hooks. I inquired about this for crawler harnesses and quick-strike rigs last year. Hardware? Any spinner, but a guy might be able to push it with a line-spoon, like a hookless swedish pimple, or even a rattle or beads. Oh - nice looking rods. I like the flared butt.

I talked to a CO and asked him about the treble hook issue with cats. This ONE CO said he would not cite a guy if he was using a trble with a prepared bait.He said he would define the prepared bait as the lure. Now I don't know if the co you run into will see things the same way.

Hey wiskers, How can guy get ahold of your recipe? I've havent had good luck up here on the Red with dip baits, caught a few fish but the stuff mostly washes off. I'd be interested in trying your punch bait, do ya got it on your HSOforum? Dirk W, I thought it was more than one hook needs a flasher like a crawler harness, though a treble has more than one hook, its fused to make one, those rubber units used for dip baits with a treble on the end, is that a lure? It's designed to hold dip bait, it by itself probley wont attract fish, until bait is applied. I think I'm thinking to much. later, boar

Go to my site and click the link for Sure Shot. My bait is similar to his but he's a good Ol' boy and he could use some of the business. If you decide to take all the trial and error out of it I could sell you a gallon premixed.
