Tyler Holm
I’ve been chomping at the bit to get my ice gear wet and after received my new LX-5 on Friday, I simply couldn’t take it anymore. I did a quick trip to a local area marina on Lake Pepin searching for panfish under the docks. I equip myself with a LX-5, 4 ice rods, waxies, and ice tackle. What an awesome experience. The LX-5 was incredible. I would simply walk around the maze of docks, dipping the transducer in the drink about every 10 feet or so until I marked fish. Often times the crappies were schooled 7-13 feet down in 16-18 FOW. The gills held tight to the bottom. What a hoot. The #12 Marmooska tipped with a waxie caught several fish but the JB Lures #8 Gem-n-Eye (with a waxie) got the honors for the largest fish, as well as hardest hit. Those who limit their ice gear to only ice are missing out. Oh…. And yes, that’s a pile of fish in 7-9 feet down.

Tyler Holm
There are many Marina's along Lake Pepin. Redwing, Lake City, Wabasha, and several others. Public fishing piers work as well. I went out on Friday to a public fishing pier that's walking distance from my house. I brought my LX-5 and one rod. I caught 5 fish in 30 minutes and probably marked 25. I was fishing 4-7 FOW. Check out the Pool 4 forum for some detailed reports if your interested in Lake Pepin Marina fishing.
