collegeoutdoorsman
I was wondering what the estimated weight of a 48 1/2" flathead would be...I was looking over a recent outdoor magazine and someone from sleepy eye caught it on the minnesota...that thing looked like a hog. DARK30
Hey College, I caught a 47" Flathead last year that weighed in at 48lbs and it didn't even have much of a beer belly. I'll bet this 48.5 was over 50 easy. I hope it was released. WET NETS!------------------cast,cast,cast,cast......

dragon master
College good to know that you are still alive My frist 46lb was 49in it was caught in the late fall, if it had been at the end of May or in june I would bet a good 50+. My 48lb was caught the 2nd week of June and at 47.5in. Who knows??? Any way you look at it! It was a GOOD Flat! You don't know what pheasants hunting is about till you come down here! You have the Flats we have the pheasants! At this point and time it's bow hunting. And man do we have some big bucks!! My 14 point that I have been after for the last 2 years is still alive! And I plan to put his good LUCK to an end... College my E-Mail is [email protected]
Steve Foss
With only the length, it gets really tough. Individual fish vary so much on the girth, depending on age, growth rate, whether they've been feeding heavily.Next time, if you get length and girth (girth measured just behind the gills around the belly) here's a good formula that works for any fish, not just cats: girth X girth X length (all measurements in inches), divided by 800.I don't have much experience with flatheads. Likely someone else on this post could give you a weight range for a flathead that long. I've caught channel cats up to 25 that this formula worked on, to within half a pound of a regular scale.Good luck.
