erikwells
I have been fishing stretch of river that has tons of small catfish 6-10 inches. Will this be a good spot in two years? Are catfish a lot like walleyes where you get into a school most of them tend to run the same size? I have caught about 100 small catfish from this stretch and some nice walleyes. The walleys keep me coming back but the little cats are a little disappointing.
DARK30
I'm pretty sure those little cats will stick together for awhile yet and yes, you should pick up some nice eater size ones in 2-3 years if they stay around. Not knowing what waterway your talking about, I'd guess that if there are nice Walleye around then there should be some nice Cats in there as well. Guest
I think where you catch little cats you will always catch little cats. Those fish will grow up but I think you will find them else where.I do belive there are little cat spots and big cat spots. DARK30
I think big ones with little spots could be in the same hole with little ones with big spots but...Either way, they'll always be in the channel....Thats why they call them..Channel Cats.------------------cast,cast,cast,cast...... Guest
Forage preferences change as the cats mature and subsequently the areas they feed in.This is not to say that in certain calendar periods that many age groups hang out in the same areas, this is very common in spring and in late fall.On average I think piggys hang with piggys and piglets hang with other piglets.------------------Backwater Eddy..><,sUMo,>Backwater Guiding"Ed on the RED"(701)-281-2300[email protected] http://fishingminnesota.com/ed-on-the-red
erikwells
Thanks for all of the advice. I will try moving to some different spots for the cats.
Steve Foss
Also, consider your bait choice. Little cats will more willingly eat a wide variety of baits than mature cats. If you're after the mature channels, better to stick with fresh cut bait like suckers, goldeye or frogs (cut up whatever rough fish are native to that river) than to experiment with stink baits, cheese baits, etc. Once they get a certain size, they tend to stick more with what they know.Good luck.
