BLACKJACK
Everytime I've ever asked a butcher they always say you get your own deer meat back but then you have people claiming that you don't... Which is it??? Speak up you guys that have worked in butcher shops!
sdstate
It all really depends on where you take your meat. If you take it to a big butcher shop you prolly wont get your meat back. I worked at a smaller butcher shop during the busy deer season for 3 years in a row and i can honestly say everyone got there deer back. There was no "mixing." THe place only dealt with 90-100 deer so when we started doing deer it was one groups deer at a time. We made sure each deer had their own tub and it was always clearly identified. So in my opinion, find a small butcher shop and you will prolly get your deer back.
chucker34
I get my own cuts back but the butcher lets me know up front he mixes the scraps with the others to make sausage, jerky, brats, etc. Guess it doesn't bug me that much becasue the guy weighs everyone's scraps and divies it out fairly. Plus, I know him and know he takes pride in what he does. He won't mix meat that's suspect with others. But if I didn't know him and the way he operates it, I might not like the mixing idea so much. To paraphrase what one guy said here last year, do you want your nice tender doe mixed up with some old swamp buck that one eyed jack gut shot and let lay all day before doing a half-a-- job of gutting? lol.
