Propane oven question

Craig_S

Question

I've got a small propane range at the shack and the oven doesn't work. The pilot works fine, and if you light it on broil the main burner burns, but if you put the thermostat in the bake temperature range, the main burner goes out and doesn't re-ignite.

At first I though it was the thermostat, but now think there's something plugging up the temperature control valve. I'd like to take the valve apart and clean it, but there doesn't seem to be a good time to do it.

Any suggestions?

Craig

possibly thermostat. without seeing it tough to say...some of the older ovens had a hydraulic oven safety valve..when turned on the pilot would get larger and heat a metal bulb.. the bulb was attached to a line that went back to the valve, once heated it would open the valve and allow gas to the burner..id take a look at the pilot..see what it looks like..may possibly luck out and its just corroded or something...otherwise your probly better off scrapping it..you could get a new stove for not much more than trying to repair.....

I think the range was made in the '80's, so it's not that old. The pilot doesn't flare up when you switch to oven mode, but does ignite the main burner when you turn it to broil.

I'd just go out and get a new stove, but it's a small apartment sized range for a small shack, and they're hard to come by.

If it is just the thermostat, any idea where I could get one? It seems like the kind of part that should be available and easy to replace, but I've been looking in hardware and fleet type stores and can't find one.

I've got a small gas range with some issues. It's a Tappan 30 series gas range. The burners work fine, it's the oven that's not working properly. I'll turn it on, and the pilot will light, but the gas won't come on. If I shut it off, the pilot goes out. What do you guys think? Thermocouple? Thermostat?
