deer processing

Recommended Posts

I have searched old posts about places to process deer and am not finding much for options. Can someone give me some suggestions on where to take my deer in the metro area? I am in the SW metro but I would drive a distance to get good cuts and sausage. Last year I went to Von Hanson's and it was good but I want to try somewhere different this year. I have quartered my deer the last few years and wonder if there are places that will do sausage but don't do the processing? I was thinking about getting my trimmings and taking them somewhere to have sausage made.

The place in Jordan here has quite a reputation (good). Because of that, they get a ton of business so you might have to wait a bit longer. But it's probably worth it.

The name of the place is Pekarna's.

Oh and BTW, you can bring your trimmings only there as I've done that in the past. Just be sure it's pretty clean, they frowned on some of the fatty trimmings I gave them.

Good Luck

I'll second dtro, I don't want to sound like a homer cause I also am from Jordan, but their reputation speaks for itself and I have had great luck there myself. Although one thing I will say is their hotdogs are not as good as they once were in my opinion. I've also heard some good comments about the meat market in nicollet I believe it is called Schmidt's Meat Market(Some one correct me if I'm am wrong). I've had some of their deer sticks and summer sausage and they are both great.

Schmidt's is the place in Nicollet. That is where I am leaning toward but thought there must be a great place closer. I will look into the place in Jordan. I need to get my quartered deer cut up first before I look into sausage.

Thanks for the suggestion!

No, I might have to give it a try I have some trimmings I have to take in. What is all in their Jackaroni sticks?

It sucks now with firearms season, I get done with work and go out hunting when I get back and am too tired to do anything else, Like bring in the meat. Also do you know the hours Perkarna's are open? Thanx in advance.

I'm in Bloomington and I drive to Albertville to have mine processed. Steffens Meat Market is the place. I'm picky and they have done me a quality job for 3 years. If you have hamburger made - tell them how much beef or pork you want added. Otherwise you might not get exactly what you are looking for. Excellent hot sticks. I highly recommend the jalepeno cheese hot sticks. Best sausage I've found around too. They are known for their breakfast sausages though. I think they are called country sausages. Pretty good! I went around and tryed several places and this is the best I found. They beat out: Von Hanson's (metro), Lorenz Meat (Cannon Falls), Macenthuns (St. Boni), Anoka Meat Market and one other place that I can't remember the name of at this particular time.

Lang's meat market (formerly Pinske's meat market) here in Gaylord is pretty good. I've had all kinds of stuff made there and it's been good. I'm not sure if he still does it or not, but Kent Hrbek always used to bring his deer to the meat market in town. smirk.gif

I've heard some excellent reports about Schmidt's in Nicollet too.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
