Anyone still chasing muskies???

Recommended Posts

I have not been out for skis in the last week but hopefully tommorow I can get out for a muskie/wally combo. I have not done a whole lot of ski fishing this late in the year. Hopefully I can get one to lick a sucker for me.

I fished Mille Lacs for the week prior to Deer Opener. Boated some nice fish....a total of 6 for the trip (Tuesday- Friday). Nothing over 50inches, the biggest was 49 and the smallest was 41.5. I knocked my deer down this past weekend so Ill be spending the rest of my time on the water in search of the queen...good luck everyone

Hiya -

I just got back from a couple days of fishing - filming a show for The Next Bite. Went pretty well - we got 4 in 2 days, with a 49 the biggest.

What the fish do real late really depends on the lake. On some lakes fish move really shallow following the ciscoes in as they get ready to spawn. You can cath them on topwaters in 3' of water if ocnditions are right. Other lakes it's just the opposite. Fish bail out of the shallows for the most part and park on steep breaks and steep inside turns.

Soft plastics seem to do really well late for me - stuff like big jigs, big tubes, Bull Dawgs, etc. Can of course catch them on slow-rolled spinnerbaits, oil-filled Jakes and weighted jerkbaits too. Quick strike rigged suckers can also be very very good late in the season. For fish on steep breaks, hard to beat a Fuzzy Duzzit.

The main thing I do late in the season is look for forage. I'll sometimes run through 3-4 spots with the graph for every one I actually fish. Unless I know it's a good spot that consistently holds fish late in the season, if I don't see baitfish I move on...good electronics account for a lot of fish late in the season.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm
