spearing pictures

thats a great picture it will be hard to get a good one with it being dark in there, any others please post.

It looks like the hole was drilled with a standard auger with the circular holes connected in the rectangular pattern. Does that work out pretty well?

I have used the auger for a couple of years before I bought a saw, that is a sweet pic looking forward to some early ice

How good does that saw work? I seen them at Fleet and always wondered, I use a auger also and leaves a lot of ice to scoop out.

I use an auger. One little trick to help get all the ice out of the hole after using the auger is to buy a metal scoop shovel and drill a bunch of holes in it. It works very well.

before the saw I would drill one in the middle and made a big hook out of rebar with a handle on it and would get it out in one chunk, now with the saw I got a pair of old ice thongs, and can take the chunk out in two pieces.

When you guy talk about saw, are you talking the hand ice saw, or chain saw? I've never been spearing, but have seen the hole cut with a chain saw. Haven't seen the hand saw in action yet. Does it work pretty well?

My uncle used to set minnow traps in the winter up in Findland and would use a chain saw to cut them out. I was just 8 or 9 when I saw this, and remember thinking that it was pretty neat!
