hungry cats

I went to the Miss. below 494 today for walleye and all I could find were cats.I caught cats in just about every place I tried for walleye. They were not shy either.I was using jigs and medium sized minnows(small chubs/shiners/dace/small suckers)fished verticaly below the boat as I drifted over wing dams and current breaks.None of the fish were big but there was a lot of action and it was a good time.

Sounds like fun to me. We should be out on the Mississippi this weekend sometime. We're going to try some walleye fishing near the Ford Dam. I guess I'll have to bring some cut-bait in case the walleyes aren't happening. See ya on the river. Vern

I talked to a guy who fished up at the dam and he said he was getting cats too.I might give the dam a shot this weekend also.Maybee I'll bump into you.Look for me in my jon boat.As long as you are here I was at your HSOforum and saw that you have a photo page.Would you be interested in a very handsome rat holding an average sized gar or a very handsome rat holding a BIG white bass?

Today I fished the MN between Carver and Jordan and hooked three cats on shad raps. The biggest went 12lbs and the smallest was about 3lbs.The 12lb cat was probably only a 10lber but his belly looked like a lumpy balloon. It was just stuffed with small fish. You could actually see the outline of his dinner.I cannot believe he actually was going for seconds(or 5ths)when he hit my shad rap.

Hey Fishhead! Well we didn't make it out this weekend. We bought a bigger jonboat and are rigging it up for our Rainy River sturgeon trip. We're leaving on Thursday. Send some photos over to us! A gar shot would be cool. Hey Dark30, you should e:mail a photo of your flathead too. Vern

I did not make it to the dam this weekend either.Dark showed me around the Blue Earth on saturday(nice looking water).I got so excited about seeing a few small walleye that I gave the MN a try on sunday. It payed off.

Good luck on the Rainy.I am envious.Dinosaurs and White tips sounds like a great trip.I'll look at the Rainy forum for how you guys did.

We bought a 16' semi-v Lowe johnboat that's a lot deeper & wider. Our 14' was a little scary at times on the big water, like at Red Wing or the Rainy. We're putting in floorboards, lights, seats etc. Can't wait to fish out of it on Thursday. Vern

Jim,Yes I did say walleye!
We got a few very small ones on the Blue Earth on saturday.Sunday I fished the MN and picked up 5(well two were saugeye).Nothing big yet.I have been down on the banks a few nights but not have seen any shallow water action yet.Sounds like you might be on a road trip this weekend.Stop by a make a few cast if you have the time.I can leave my cell # on the moderators forum if you want it.Heck if things work out I might have to follw you guys up for some steelhead and salmon fishing.I have done a little of that in Mich.what a blast! They were busting up my cat tackle!

Wow! I'd love to hear that story myself. I heard that you met my brother. What a small world. If you end up working with him, you'll hear stories like that all the time. He likes to stretch the truth a little bit! My sister's brother-in-law caught a huge flathead on a nightcrawler a few years back, but I wasn't there. I think it was in Savage and it was not on a cain pole. It might have been 60 lbs, but I really don't know. Maybe I did catch an 80 pounder on a cain pole & I just don't remember. Ha Ha! Wow! How did I land that thing on a cain pole? Vern
p.s. Didn't catch any sturgeon, but we did catch a lot of walleyes, pike & sauger.

I don't know why I am fishing for walleyes when the cats are going nuts!I fished the Carver rapids today for walleye but found some very active catfish.I cought just under a dozen channels while pitching jigs onto the granite shelves and vertically jigging the current edges. Most of the fish were in the 3 to 5lb range.I wonder how I would have done with some good old cut bait?!!!

Hey fishhead, I finally checked my p.o. box yesterday and got your pics. Those are some great photos. The next time you come across some giant white bass you'll have to let us know. My scanner is not cooperating so it will be a few days before I get them on our site. If the cats are on fire I might have to head down to the creek and see if the chubs are still as thick as they were a month ago. I wouldn't mind catching a few more cats before my favorite spots are frozen over. Hey Dark30, I'll be putting your flathead on our web page soon also. -Rick Anderson

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
