Lowrance is replacing my ExpeditionC gps

schweady

Question

The Lowrance tech I talked with this afternoon (a record low of only 5 minutes on hold!) listened to my tale of woe with power cables and my iFinder ExpeditionC gps (basically the same unit as the H2OC). He spent some time looking up info in their database, and mentioned a "known problem with some of these units" where circuitry in the unit that is supposed to sense the external power cable goes haywire. My original cable would work for a while and then not. And ditto for the replacement cable they sent me in July. The clincher was the road trip that sucked the life out of some fresh batteries while displaying "External Power" the whole time. He had heard that one before with other Expeditions, and it pretty much assured him that mine was one of the units with this known circuit problem. So, I got a return authorization number and the unit is going in, supposedly for a complete replacement. Just thought some other folks might be experiencing the same frustrations, and would want to get theirs in and out before the hard water. (He didn't promise, but estimated complete turnaround at 2 to 2-1/2 weeks.)

And, if folks are thinking that this is yet another reason to avoid this line of gps, think again. I'm still convinced that this unit, combined with a LakeMaster and/or Navionics chip, is the cats.
