Hunters and the hunted (pics included)

This was along the Secret Lake/Blackstone Trail system. It's off the Fernberg Road, then left on Moose Lake Road, about 15 miles from Ely. One of the most scenic trail systems, not in the BWCAW, but plenty of ups and downs, rocks, forest and water, and the beginning is through the big blowdown area, so you get to see the succession when the forest recovers. And several beautiful scenic overlooks, which are uncommon on Ely area trails.

But, on to the pics.

Why is this doe so nervous?

Here's why. She was watching them closely. They'd shot about 100 yards from the doe and were talking loudly as they approached, proud of their grouse. Notice Dad is holding his 12 and her .410. The 12 is in perfect walking position and, while you can't see it here, the .410 is broken open.

Both great shots. That is a very unusual pose on the doe. What a great photo of Dad and daughter, I hope they get a copy.

Steve..did this pic make it to a magazine? Seems I saw it somewhere like my feild and stream or something.

Nope, no magazine sale for that one yet. What you see in this autumn's magazines was shot at least last autumn, and sometimes longer ago.

That's a great picture of the father and daughter. I swear that I've seen that picture somewhere before too. Did someone steal your picture? Is it on your HSOforum? maybe I saw it there.
