small game caliber restrictions?

Does anyone know if there are any restrictions on what can be used for huting small game? I didn't see anything in the regs, other than restrictions during firearms deer season. I know that, ethically, it's not a great thing to go squirrel hunting with a .308 or a 7mm mag, and I wouldn't do that anyhow. But I have a couple of muzzleloaders, a .36 T/C Renegade and a 1851 Colt Navy. Either one of them, with the right load, can take squirrels without damaging them too bad. I would love to do some small game hunting with my traditional smokepoles.

I've hunted in other states that have lots of restrictions on what guns can be used for what critters, so I figured that I'd ask around. I emailed the DNR, too, and I've been waiting to hear back from them. Just wondering if anyone else had any input.

I checked the regulations and did not find anything, so you can use whatever you want to take them i guess.

As far as I know, there are no restrictions on what caliber can be used for the harvest of small game. Hopefully, the DNR can put your mind at ease for sure though.

as far as i know u cant use any other than a .22 with standard longrifle shells for pheasents. U cant hunt ducks wiht anythign but a shotgun. ah no posion tipped arrows, or traps. but otherwise everythign is fair game from what it sounds like. Grouse are fun to shoot wiht a bow and arrow!!!!!

in iowa you can use any gun on pheasants.

i keep thinking it would be fun to take the .17 after em, kinda like plinking.

a shotgun with my labs are too much fun to try it anyother way.

Along the same line does anyone know if there are restrictions on allowable calibers for hunting small game or yotes in areas designated slug only for deer hunting?

Seems like there would be but I didn't see any.
