Catmendo
As predicted, many are enjoying incredible success landing huge 'eyes on the Red again this fall! The water levels are slightly lower than normal however there's just enough flow in the system to attract fish in off the lake. With the water temps hovering around the mid fifties, cranks are producing extremely well. Jigging methods have also been doing well but on average, those pulling are consistntly enjoying greater success especially on "big" 'eyes! Yesterday morning I spoke with a guy who hales from Grand Forks, ND. Over a five day period he has personally landed "Eleven" trophy 'eyes. (is that any good) Two of which exceeded fourteen pounds! What's even more amazing, he has yet to keep a single large walleye.....reason, he has set his mark high at a fifteen or better! Knowing that it's just a matter of time before he succeeds, I think he's doing the right thing! The winter ice fishing season will also be incredible and that is now only weeks away! One last thing, yesterday I witnessed a guy land a 47" pike! This fish was girthy as well as massive across the back. It would have been very close to thirty pounds....talk about an unexpected bonus fish! fireman
Anything happening on the Winnipeg? We are leaving on Wednesday for 4 days of fishing up there. Pretty open to trying either river system. I did hear the Winnipeg was low this year.

The Red has been fishing extremely well again this fall and this trend will continue well into the hard water season!
fireman
Sounds like the Red might be the ticket. We have a cabin rented on Traverse Bay, which I think is about an hour drive from Selkirk. We have never fished the Red, so was wondering where we could find a boat launch. Fishing new waters, we will problably start out pulling cranks, but do they catch fish while jigging also? Any hazards to watch to out for out there, rock piles, sand bars, etc.?

I'm a little curious, what kind of report did you get regarding the bite on the Winnipeg, from those who are renting you this cabin? As for where to launch on the Red, the City of Selkirk has a launch facility. Your best approach as far as presentation is concerned is to work lead heads now. The crank bite "WAS" awesome prior to the water temps plummeting. Back to the Winnipeg. The lastest report that I received from a friend who was over there on Sunday says, it's still a no show. There's the odd 'eye being caught, but over all it's been non-existent. fireman
Have not heard of any decent reports from the Winnipeg, sounds like everything is happening on the Red. We may try the Winnipeg for a day and see how it goes. If nothing is happening there, we'll move to the Red.

topcat3820
Not too shabby, Volks . Only thing is, your pic is from the inside stretch at Doc Reid's , MM starts at the Fort and runs to DuBois.

fireman
Had another great trip up north. Fished Thurs and Fri at Pine falls, caught some nice fish and lost some nice fish. Got to watch the weigh in for the Walleye Tournament and there were some decent fish caught on Friday. Saturday we went and fished the Red on the way home and had a great day. What an awesome fishery. Ended up catching a 30.5", 29", and 27.5". All fish were caught in the area I believe is the called the Powerlines. Seen some other big fish caught as well. Anyone have the results from the Tourney at Pine Falls?
