Pretty much hung up the cat gear.

I hit the Red River up in Grand Forks on Saturday and caught 3 channels all under 10lbs. Should have had another 4 but couldn't get the rods out of the holders quick enough. The bite was slow, lots of taps and nibbles but the fish would just not take the bait good.

Time to focus on hunting until the lakes freeze.

I was out for a few hours yesterday. Ran into a 15 lbs channel...and he sure felt good!

Off to check on the channel and maybe a flathead tonight on the Miss. I received a report from Everts that the Channel Cats are still going strong....so I'm pulling out the stink bait one more time this year! cool.gif

While everyone was fishing a sauger contest at the head of P4 yesterday morning/afternoon...I was soaking some shad in some likely spots...watching sauger after sauger (and a few eye's) boated.

Bites certainly weren't a problem, but hooking the fish was another story. It's that time of year when there are schools of 6 to 7 inch channels down there. The shad would come back to the boat with only the head and backbone left on the hook. This means only one thing...time to MOVE!

We did end up with 3 channels in the 3 to 4 lbs range and one 45 inch sturgeon that thought it was a channel cat. There's still flats being reported by eye anglers trolling cranks around the wing dams. I'm guessing they are stopping in the deeper scour holes on their way to the wintering areas.

If you have a chance to get out yet this year...shad seems to be the bait of choice for channels. Use a 4 to 6 inch live sucker on the backside of the wing dam tips for the flats. Down size your hook to fit the bait.

Fish ON! cool.gif
