my cat spot that i go is 1 mile back in the woods on foot and i always leave very late. since i have been fishing the spot regulary i have problems with bears comeing to see what all the splashes of me landing a fish are about or maybe they just smell the bait. last night me and my girlfreined where followed back to the car by one, 1 mile. hate to give up the spot to the critters but dang it makes you nervice to go in the woods with cut bait in your pack. next time i am bring a road flare. channels are avg. 5-7 lbs. decent for duluth area. going back tomarow hope you guys hear from me if not....

If you are going to go back to your fishing hole, I would seriously consider bringing something more powerful than a road flare. A hungry bear would be very hard to deter. Giving up that spot might be difficult, but bears don't mess around. They can kill a man.

I was just talking to Joel (catfishunter) on the phone last night about his bear problem. I said alot of guys go out of their way to hunt these critters, but your situation, they are finding you! My recommendation was to pick up a bear tag (I think he is in a no-quota zone), and bring a rifle with to the fishing spot if this is an area that is open to public hunting.
