Charity Navigator Says Pheasants Forever Outperforms Most Charities in America

PF Recognized with 4-Star Rating for Third Consecutive Year

St. Paul, Minn. - September 8, 2006 - For the third consecutive year, Pheasants Forever (PF) received the highest rating possible from Charity Navigator. PF scored a 4-star rating on Charity Navigator’s 0-to-4-star rating scale. In fact, the non-profit watchdog group gave PF an “exceptional” designation indicating that PF outperforms most charities in America.

Charity Navigator is the nation’s largest charity evaluator. Through Charity Navigator’s evaluation system, non-profit organizations are judged upon their ability to efficiently manage and grow its finances. The watchdog organization evaluates over 5,000 non-profits nationwide, more than any other organization.

According to Charity Navigator, only 12 percent of the charities they rate have received at least two consecutive 4-star evaluations. Pheasants Forever’s three consecutive 4-star ratings, Charity Navigator goes on to say, indicates that PF outperforms most charities in America in its efforts to operate in the most fiscally responsible way possible. This “exceptional” designation from Charity Navigator differentiates PF from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.

“We measure success in habitat acres on the ground,” explained Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s President and Chief Executive Officer Howard Vincent. “However, this 4-star rating is important to us as well. A 4-star rating from Charity Navigator means that we keep our promise to our members and donors. There are expectations whenever you donate to a non-profit. This evaluation proves that we are good to our word and put fundraising dollars to work on the ground for habitat and conservation education.”

Highlighted in the report was PF’s ability to turn nearly 90 cents of every budgeted dollar into the organization’s mission of wildlife habitat and conservation education. Since inception in 1982, PF has spent nearly $200 million on wildlife habitat projects and conservation education. Those funds have translated into 300,000 habitat projects benefiting over 4 million acres across the continent.

“Charity Navigator’s rating is also another indication of how well our unique local model works,” added Vincent. PF and its quail division, Quail Forever (QF), empower local chapters with the responsibility to determine how 100 percent of their locally-raised conservation funds will be spent. QF and PF are the only national conservation organizations that operate through this truly grassroots structure. This local control allows members to see the fruits of their chapter efforts in their own communities, while belonging to a national organization with a voice on federal conservation policy in Washington D.C.

Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever are non-profit conservation organizations dedicated to the protection and enhancement of pheasant, quail and other wildlife populations in North America through habitat improvement, land management, public awareness, and education. Together, PF and QF account for 665 chapters and 115,000 members across the continent.

That is great to see. I'm a committee member in my county chapter and it makes you feel better seeing somthing like this after all the hard work and effort people put into the program and $ people spend at banquets.

The GREAT part of PF is that such a high percent of the dollars raised goes right back into your backyard.Jeff Finden and the current president of Pf,Joe Dugan have done an outstanding job along with all of the local chapter members and the people who support this great group of people.I have been a member for close to 20 years.

I was one of the founding fathers of the chapter that doser is talking about and they continue to do a excellent job with this county's chapter.Their banquet is a huge success every year due to all the hard work put forth all year long.

I wholeheartedly agree. all the hard work that the volunteers put in is really something. A slight correction, Dugan is VP, Howard Vincent is Pres. Joe is a great guy who is really committed to the cause. I have been active on my chapter's board for about a dozen years and it has sure been a great ride.

That is one of the reasons I joined PF in the first place, was how the money raised by the chapters is spent in the counties and how we can get matching funds from National. After 18 years as chapter pres. I can see how much good we do here, but we have a long way to go. We try getting most of the money in the ground that we raise. Its nice to see that this part of the state has some of the highest numbers of birds in the state, I would hope we had a hand in it. Our motto is " Give them habait, they will come"
