LOUD TILT/TRIM

mrjigger

Question

I have a 175 yamaha vmax HPDI. When tilting the motor down there is a loud grinding sort of noise which comes from the hydraulics. Had a guy tell me it was just because the hydraulic arm was dry from being in the full tilt position too long. Is this correct? It seems to do it even when not tilted up for very long. However, sometimes I hear it, sometimes not.

My Merc had a similar issue, but I don't know about Yamahas....I had more of loud clicking/grinding. It turned out to be the roller cams on the end of the hydraulic trim rods needed to be greased. Dab grease on the end to make the rollers move freely against the motor.
