Buzz baits

Fever

Recommended Posts

Been using clacker style and double buzz baits this summer. Both of which have produced fairly well. I was basically wondering how many of us are using buzz baits and if you guys are using them more than the Pop r's or Chugger's. Alot of posts lately have been dealing with the top water stick baits. Personally I use the Buzz baits a bit more often. Another thing... How important do you think color is on the buzz baits really? My impression is the fish are responding aggressively to the noise and comotion on the surface and it is usually a quick reaction strike as oppossed to anything else. I personally use more light colored buzzers. White, Charchuse, yellow, etc. I have seen black ones but I don't own one. Later...

I have been throwing the strike king double buzzer this year with plenty of success. This has been a very good big fish bait for me. I never had much success on standard buzzers for bigger fish. Fished slow the double buzzer has been a serious quality fish bait.

I have caught fish on white and white/chartreuse. I picked up a black one that will be seeing some water this week.

I'm not real big on the hard baits around here because of all the vegetation.

Don't forget your throwback baits. A week and a half ago I had a big blowup on the double buzzer and a whiff on the hookset. Throw the old zoom brush hawg to the spot and a minute and a half later I am holding a pudgy 5lb 13oz.

Gotta love the sundown buzzbait action.

i love buzzbaits. i have been fishing mostly a Skeets double buzz this year and it is great. i think that a white or chartrues is good in good light situations however when it is eeeeeeeeearly in the morning or in the evening i will opt for black all the time. i fished side by side witha guy who was throwing a black and i was throwing yellow and he was getting bit 2 times as much as me. Also a note about buzz baits is that there is a good article in this months BASSMASTERS issue about a guy who fishes the river here in Minnesota and all he throws is a buzz bait. A very unique article and a unique fella. one thing that i think is good about a buzzbait is that you can drill holes in the blades and then you get more bubbles making it easier for the fish to track it. Those are my random thoughts on buzzbaits i think everyone should own a few and in a few colors but my favorites are BLACK and then some other color. ike

Black is a great color for low light conditions. Also if you see a spot that looks good but you dont get a srike on your first cast. Throw it in the same spot several times. I was doing this last fall and didn't get a strike until the fifth or sixth cast. Then I got 3 fish in 3 casts. All quality.

jalberg nicely said, i was reading one time about a pro who always casts several times to one spot with his buzzer he said that sometimes it takes a few times to really [PoorWordUsage] off the big onese. i thought of this last week and cast to a log and on the 6th cast WHAMMO she smoked it. Of course it was huge girl and i never turned her head and she went down and wraped me around that log and chucked the hook but it was a great 7 second battle. ike

Hey ikeslayer, Just want to make a commit, that artical in that magizine is awesome. there is so many tips in that artical. Even thow its based on river fishing, it still has the right situation on the lake front. I would have to say that in the years that i have been fishing, that is my go to bait when it comes to the time to cover water, Get them 5 fish and then go get big dogs. White is my color of choice. Black is ok depending on the days, but white with double cracking blades, slow presentation. cant beat it on the water boys.

I agree with Jalberg, black works great in low light conditions. Black buzzbaits and spinnerbaits after dark have produced well for me. Especially on moon lit evenings. My largest largemouth was caught on a black spinnerbait a year ago mid september at about 8:30 p.m. I was casting to some reeds in about 3 or 4 feet of water when she hit it. I knew it was a nice fish after it made a jump, but had no idea it was 22 inches and 3 oz. shy of 7lbs. until I got it in. Low light periods are pretty much the only time I throw black. The rest of the time I usually do better with whites/chartreuse colors. I guess water clarity may also make me lean one way or the other on colors.
