WHO's the odd man out

I'd say if someone in the top 10 is going to be out of it, it would be Burton. He and his team just don't seem to be as sharp here in the last few races to the chase as the other teams.

But, my "official pick" is that Kahne won't make it in. Just got a feeling he won't do it. I'm probably wrong on this one, but that's what my gut is telling me. Oooo...but maybe I shouldn't have eaten that sloppy joe tonight! tongue.gif

The current drivers in positions three through 10 in the standings will clinch a Chase berth with the following finishes Saturday, regardless of how other competitors finish:

#29-Kevin Harvick – 40th

#24-Jeff Gordon – 25th

#5-Kyle Busch – 22nd

#8-Dale Earnhardt Jr. – 16th

#11-Denny Hamlin – 16th

#20-Tony Stewart – seventh

#6-Mark Martin – fourth

#31-Jeff Burton – fourth

He should be considering that you know Morgan Shepard or one of those other field fillers will be out by lap two just so they can collect their money and go home. Good thing about Richmond is even if you get in a wreck you can ride around most of the day and pick up spots as others fall out....if you have trouble early anyway.

Speaking of which...I was watching NASCAR Raceday on Sunday and, as you know I've only been a big fan for 5 or so years now, but they had a segment where they talked about "start and park". Where when some of these drivers make the grid, they get out there, run a few laps, then park the car before they blow an engine or get in a wreck or anything else. They collect their money and go.

What a crock that is! I never knew teams and owners did that! IMO, there ought to be a rule saying they need to attempt to run the full race and the only time they can park it is if they break or wreck or something along those lines. Then, if they claim they break, have an inspection and if they didn't (if everything is a-ok), withdraw their winnings, give them a fine, and spread the winnings to the rest of the teams that at least tried to run the whole race.

I'm just surprised there is such a thing as "start and park". Rediculous.

I've been noticing that for some time now. Shortly into a race you'll already see someone on the "ticker" going across the screen labeled as "out". No crash, no TV coverage, just out. Then the next day you pull up the race results online and see their winnings. Not bad for a weekend!

That's what Jimmy Spencer and Kenny Wallace were talking about during the show when they had a segment on it. There was a comparison between Jimmy Johnson and I believe Derrik Cope where Jimmy had run some 6000+ laps this year and has earned around $1000+ per lap and Cope has run some certain number of laps and had made $6000+ per lap. Sure, it makes "financial" sense....but is a cheap trick to pull IMO. Let someone else who wants to try and win get the chance to.

Mikey and some reporter were on that "Trading Paint" show on SPEED the other night and they debated this issue. I'll give you one guess who was for it? Yep, Mikey. Heck, he has to start before he can park!
