According to the DNR it is not a very good bass lake, but has anyone tried it this year. It's close to my new job and I'd like to try it some morning. Are there boat/motor restrictions? What about other species?

I just found some posts from earlier this year. Whoever made that video, it's great. I haven't eaten a bass in years. The only time I eat them is camping/canoeing when I rely on that food, so I'll be releasing all.

Med is a good lake for the cities. I just had my club event there on Monday. I took first with 12.94 lbs and big bass of 4.66. Most teams had less then 5 lbs. I think it helped that it's on my way home from work and I hit the lake a lot during the summer. It's definitely worth heading out there some morning before work.

My biggest bass ever came from Medicine Lake. Thats not saying much though, I don't fish for them darn things. Bass forum?? We have a bass forum?? Oh, the bass forum is 1 forum above the catfish forum. Thats how I ended up in here. I must have mis-clicked. grin.gif

Nope.

Good pike lake. Typical metro bluegills/crappies/perch. Saw the "new" state record dogfish on Medicine, which went home in someone's bucket. Walleyes? A few.

Hi,

Keep in mind that the DNR survey methods are not the best way to reflect a lakes bass population, varying on the survey method used, nets, electrofishing, etc.

From the DNR report on Medicine:

Quote:

Although gill nets and trap nets do not effectively sample largemouth bass, four fish, averaging approximately 14.8 inches and 2.2 pounds, were sampled in both gill and trap nets.

Definition of Electrofishing:

Quote:

Electrofishing: This is a specialized type of equipment that is most often used for sampling largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and young of the year walleye. A boat-mounted generator is used to induce electrical current into the water that stuns the fish, allowing fisheries workers to net the fish for placement in live wells. Most of the fish caught by electrofishing recover rapidly and are promptly returned to the water after the necessary biological data is recorded.

It's a good lkae, just down the road from me, you'll learn a lot about how to fish deeper, it's not a traditional pitch the shoreline and docks approach all the time! Work out in deeper water and you'll find some fish, and there are some bruisers!

Good luck,

Chris
