Kayak fishing

Recommended Posts

I am new to fishing in kayaks. I went up to Lake of The Woods and decided to give it a try. It was on Hayes Lake. I didn't realize how easily fish can pull you around. I got a couple northerns around 10 pounds an boy can they pull you around. I just wanted to know how long most of you have been kayak fishing. I am going to buy one. They would be nice to get on small rarely fished lakes with no easy access.

I just started this year. I like the way those pike can pull ya around too, on a calm day I can pull myself along the shoreline as I fish by just casting a spinnerbait out in front and retrieving it grin.gif I can't wait til I get a big ol cat or sturgeon on, yehaa!

Been fishing from a Kayak since purchasing my Keowee 2 from

REI online back in 98. Caught a few northerns while staying

up at Gull 4 Seasons on Round Lake to get out of the wind and

they towed me all over the place. Didn`t bother trying to

reel them until they were tired of towing me all over the

lake. Was a blast, but its been years since catching anything

that size living down here. About all I catch now is little

crappies and sunnies out of Sleepy Eye lake when I get time

off work. Which rarely happens, I take my son along who just

loves catching them litle things. Told him this fall we be

taking some time off and find a Lake that will give us

something to look forward to. grin.gif

I was reading an article about fishing striped marlin out of a kayak down in baja mexico. I go down there to fish regularly, gotta try it sometime! They take you out to the fishing grounds in a cruiser, then you fish from the kayak, weather permitting, of course.

I started fishing from my ocean kayak for trout back in Spokane WA in the mid 90's. Since I moved back to MN, I've been getting out a few times a week - it's a lot faster loading up the kayak vs the pontoon. You're really going to enjoy the fishing experience from the kayak.
