Was anyone else on here picked in the prarie chicken lottery. First time picked in the 3 years of applying. I was one of the 180 something licenses.

I've got a license 809A. Never done it. Clue me in. Have been looking forward to getting a license for three years, now that I have one I would like to know the secrets. I use an English Setter and a Browning Auto.

Hunt them the EXACT opposite of everything you know and do for Pheasants and you'll be fine. (Wind at your back) Chickens use their eyes more than any of their other senses and the seemed to always be facing into the wind. Hunt short grasses (areas you wouldn't even consider for Pheasants, etc.) near known Booming Grounds and be ready, when you find one, you find more! Once you flush them, don't even bother trying to chase them, they'll fly 1/2 to 1 mile before coming down. We got a few Pheasants while we were Chicken hunting also, so that is a nice bonus. Do your scouting near dark, what may look like a flock of Black Birds off in the distance, may just be a pile of Chickens!

You can pass shoot them flying into grain fields too. Common method in KS, heard of a few in MN making this work too. This method does require scouting.
