0 Mille Lacs Guy
I wouldn't buy one. I have had horrible luck with garmin GPS units, have sent one back to the company 3 times for repair and had to pay $85 last time because it was out of warranty. I would highly recommend any of the Lowrance units like the new X91 or the X85. I also have had good luck with my Zercom LPG 2000, which was replaced by the Humminbird Legend 3000 this year, but it is essentially the same unit as the Zercom LPG 2000. 0 Capt'nJosh
I'm trying to stay under that $300 mark. Do you have any suggestions for a mid-level finder in that range?
0 Surface Tension
I like Garmin Gps's. You must have gotten a rare lemon. The Garmin 240 is the best bang for the buck and a lot higher resolution then the Lorance x71.
0 AJ
I fished with the lower end Garmin (160?) last year on a buddy's boat. Had good luck. I looked very closely at the 240 for my own boat this fall. Ended up spending more, but for $300 I was convinced that the 240 was the way to go. Sales guy at Reeds also made the same recommendation (lots of pixles and features for $300). I really like their screen and uncluttered look. Easy to access menus and move around. I own a Garmin GPS and have had great success. Reeds mentioned that the early model 240 did have a few service issues last year. If you buy the unit there they give you a brand new one while sending your old one back (no waiting), if you do have a problem. Just my two cents. 0 smallies24
Get the 240, it has the same pixels as the x91 and I think a couple hundred more watts of power. Besides, the x91 is simply an x85 with a new shell. The screen and features are all the same, but they bumped the price up in the "new" x91. The Garmins are less expensive, not cheaper, and are good quality units. I've been using their products for years without problems. Shop around though, and get as many opinions as you can. 0 oilguy
My garmin experience3 years ago my handheld GPS disappeared. Ends up it probably fell out of my jacket pocked while I was getting into my boat sometime in October. The following spring, I found the unit in the lake while I was putting my dock in. The display was full of water and it didn't work. (can ya believe that) I called garmin and they instructed me on how to send the unit back to them for service. For a minimal charge, they replaced the Unit with an upgraded (12 Channel) model and were even able to transfer all of my way-points from the old unit. They knew how to make me a happy camper! 0 Guest
I have been using a Garmin sonar for awhile now.I have never had a problem with it and I like them.I have also had mid level Eagle products like the Ultra and Magna. The Garmin is a much better sonar than those.I bought another this year.
