Rod Guide Repair

tashit

Question

Anybody know of a good place in the west metro to get a rod guide replaced? I called Thorne Bros. and Mtka Outdoors and both said it would be a week. I need the rod for this weekend so it may not be possible to get it done in time. I realize it wouldn't be too difficult to do it myself but I just won't have the time.

Also, would there be any harm in using it without the guide? It is a St. Croix Premier 6'6" medium-heavy bait caster and the broken guide is the third from the tip. I would just be using it for casting for bass or trolling cranks for walleyes. Thanks!

ta[PoorWordUsage],

I would have to say that you are going to be just fine with the missing 3rd eye. Some people are misguided, now your rod can be too grin.gif besides you may need something to blame the missed hook sets on wink.gif. Just kidding of course. You will not do any damage to the rod by not having a guide in place, it may feel a tad different when reeling...I doubt that too. Just make sure you cut the line and remove broken eye before trying to fish. grin.gifgrin.gif

Thanks for the replies. I may just wait until I get back next week because I didn't think that the missing 3rd guide would be a big deal.

Big Ick...please shoot me an email.

Just don't put too much pressure on the rod when it is missing a guide. Guides a space out on a rod to spread out the stress along the rod blank, if you are missing one you are going to create a stress point on the rod. If you can get your hands on the same guide just to a nice tape job with some good electrical tape and that should get you through the weekend.
