Dog Lake Resort.

Recommended Posts

Actually, I just got back from there July 24.

This has been our resort of choice for the last few years and we really like the place. Very reasonable prices and they don't ding you for an extra fee every time you turn around. Two good young couples run the place.

There are miles of water to fish, we did most of ours right by the resort.

Good, well kept cabins and facilities. You won't be disappointed; the only drawback is the road the last 3 miles is very rough, but be patient and you will make it just fine. Their sign says: The longest 3 miles you will ever drive.

Search for their HSOforum, it has all the information. Next year my brother has booked a Sept/Oct moose hunt, and I will be going along fishing. Looking forward to it already.

The fishing for walleyes has always been good, but we have yet to get a really big one. I am sure there are plenty of them in there for better fishermen than me.

The In-laws used to go there in the past mostly for the Pike fishing. I hear that in recent years the walleye population has really improved with lots of good eater sized fish. If you are lookin for a lake with a lot of nice sized fish, head west to Dogtooth near Kenora. Did very well there on the bigger fish at the end of June.

Fishermn I used to Fish Dogtooth twice a year but it seemed it got pounded pretty good and numbers went down. How many fish a day did ya get and did ya stay at Dogtooth resort? Still the same owners? I used to love early July for big eyes on the reefs.

I was only there two days, and it was dead flat still while we were there. So I cant say that my trip was very representative of the recent action up there... However, we caught 5 fish over 25" and 1 over 30" in those 2 days. It sounded like action prior to that point had been pretty good. Regarding the owners, yes I think they have had it for a while... I believe the owners name was Wayne.

Ya Wayne and Deb(?) are the owners but I heard a rumor that he was trying to sell. I had some fabulous trips up there and some very slow trips. The average size is great.

The cost went up and up so we went to Northern Lights and caught nice fish up til last year. I guess Northern Lights really went sour the past 2 years. We canceled up there this year. If your a smallie guy that lake will keep ya bussy all day though.

Yeah so I've heard (re NL going south...) I cancelled my trip to Sag in July because the reports I was hearing were pretty darn dismal as well... The price at Dogtooth seemed fair to me, I think it was about $50 cdn per person per night. The other thing to keep in mind is that you can always trailer over to Eagle Lake or LOW both are only a short drive from Dogtooth. Have you considered going into Lac Seul? Let me know if you do go to Dog Lake, the in-laws are considering resurrecting their annual trip up there. I might just have to tag alongf if the fishing is better than average grin.gif

If you are interested in Eagle Lake at all I have a good recommendation on accomodations there. The fishing there seemed to be really on and off though... Some years were great, others left a lot to be desired.

Even a few of the guides say its very slow on Sag and N.L.

I looked at Eagle lake but most places were spendy as well. I dont like paying to launch and dock my boat.

Now with the trips into Canada getting more and more complicated I think most of my trips will be in the U.S.

I would be curious to read some info on Eagle though. Could you send it to me? Thanks.

Eagle Lake is one fine Muskie water Fished it in July the last 3 yrs. Trade honest Eagle lake info for Dogtooth. Have 35-40 waypoints. Most are geared for Walleye structure. Our group had a fish 55-58 slam a topRaider and disappear with a hook.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
